في نهاية السبعينات, عقدت الشركة الايطالية Lamborghini اتفاقية مع شركة BMW لانتاج سيارة رياضية. وقد تم بيع هذه السيارة بين العامين 1979 و 1981 تحت اسم BMW M1, كانت هذه السيارة بمحرك 6 اسطوانات سعة 3.5 لتر. وقد استخدم هذا المحرك فيما بعد في جنوب أفريقيا للسيارة BMW 745i بين العامين 1984 و 1986, وكانت سرعة السيارة الأعظمية 260كم/س. الآن عادت هذه السيارة الأسطورية إلى الأضواء بتصميم فريد من نوعه يحمل توقيع المصمم العالمي Giorgio Giugiaro.
